Chemical Name: Organoborosilazane
Product Description
IOTA 9120 is a liquid preceramic polymer composed of repeating Si N units and Si N B units. It can be used both as a thermosetting resin and as a ceramic precursor. Under relatively mild conditions, it undergoes pyrolysis to form SiBCN ceramic products with excellent high temperature resistance.
IOTA 9120 can be crosslinked and cured at temperatures between 120 and 180 °C. Curing may be carried out in air or under an inert atmosphere.
IOTA 9120 can also be cured through hydrosilylation using a platinum catalyst at temperatures between 80 and 100 °C. The curing time depends on curing temperature and catalyst dosage and is generally 2 to 5 hours.
After high temperature pyrolysis, the cured material first converts into amorphous ceramic and eventually forms crystalline ceramic. Below 1600 °C, the product remains amorphous, while crystallization begins above 1600 °C. The ceramic composition is closely related to the pyrolysis atmosphere. Under nitrogen or argon, the products are mainly SiC and Si3N4. Under ammonia atmosphere, the main product is Si3N4. Under air conditions, the ceramic product is mainly SiBOCN. In addition, fillers may significantly affect the pyrolysis behavior and final ceramic composition.
IOTA 9120 can be diluted with various dry solvents. It is sensitive to water and alcohol solvents, which may cause hydrolysis or alcoholysis leading to product degradation. Contact with acidic, alkaline, or other protonic substances should be avoided.

Storage
The shelf life of unopened IOTA 9120 is six months. After opening, the usable period depends on protection measures. When stored in sealed, low temperature, and dry conditions, the usable period can exceed two months.
Precautions
Organoborosilazane products should be used in a dry and well ventilated environment with appropriate protective equipment such as gloves, masks, and safety glasses. Do not expose uncured IOTA 9120 to fire, moisture, or water.
