Driven by both policy and technology, the fluorosilicone rubber industry is moving towards green and high-end development

1. Breakthroughs have been made in the research and development of bio-based materials
Under the dual impetus of policy support and technological innovation, China's fluorosilicone industry is accelerating its transformation towards green and high-end development. The "Guidance Catalogue for the First Batch Application Demonstration of Key New Materials" has included 18 types of fluorosilicone products in the subsidy scope. Coupled with the tax benefit of raising the additional deduction ratio for research and development expenses to 120%, it has effectively stimulated the innovation vitality of enterprises and pushed the industry's research and development investment scale to exceed 5 billion yuan.
The research and development of bio-based fluorosilicone gel has achieved phased results. The research team has successfully developed a degradable fluorosilicone elastomer by replacing traditional petrochemical raw materials with plant-based ones. While maintaining heat resistance, the bio-based content reaches 45%, and the degradation rate exceeds 60% within six months in the natural environment after use. This material has passed the FDA food contact certification and has been tested for application in fields such as infant and toddler products and food-grade seals.

2. The closed-loop production process reduces environmental impact
Significant breakthroughs have been achieved in green production processes. 83% of key enterprises in the industry have completed the low-VOCs emission transformation. After adopting solvent-free continuous production processes, the energy consumption per unit product has decreased by 19.7% compared with the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan, and the emissions of volatile organic compounds have dropped by more than 70%. Some enterprises have also established fluorosilicone waste recycling systems to achieve the recycling and reuse of key raw materials, forming a closed-loop system of "production - use - recycling".

3. Medical-grade products are accelerating import substitution
The process of import substitution for medical-grade fluorosilicone gel is accelerating. By optimizing the purification process, the content of ionic impurities in the material is controlled below 1ppm, meeting the requirements of implant-level biocompatibility and passing the ISO 13485 medical certification. In 2023, the domestic production project of fluorosilicone rubber for high-end medical devices increased by 40%. It successfully replaced imported products in fields such as infusion catheters and artificial organ sealing, reducing the manufacturing cost of medical equipment.

4. 5G new infrastructure activates segmented demands
The rapid advancement of 5G new infrastructure has given rise to a large number of segmented demands. The demand for fluorosilicone in a single 5G base station is 1.2 to 1.5 kilograms, which is 2.3 times that of a 4G base station. It is mainly used for waterproof sealing of RF units and insulation of power modules. The specially formulated low dielectric constant fluorosilicone rubber (with a dielectric constant of 2.8-3.2) effectively reduces signal attenuation and demonstrates excellent insulation stability in high-frequency communication scenarios, making it a key supporting material for the localization of 5G equipment.
