Common lubricity of silicone oil

Hits: 917 img

Due to the small intermolecular force, the load-bearing capacity of dimethyl silicone oil film is relatively low.
Boundary lubrication performance:
In the boundary lubrication state, dimethyl silicone oil does not have good lubricity for steel-to-steel contact combinations.
Lubrication of light-load rolling bearings:
Dimethyl silicone oil is suitable for lubricating light-duty rolling bearings and exhibits good performance.
Lubrication of plastic bearings:
For non-metallic bearings such as nylon (dye amide), polytetrafluoroethylene, or phenolic resin, dimethyl silicone oil provides excellent lubrication properties.
Lubrication of metal materials:
In terms of metal materials, dimethyl silicone oil is also suitable for combinations of steel with bronze, aluminum, zinc, or cadmium, as well as combinations of aluminum with bronze, achieving good lubrication effects.
Improvement of lubricity by introducing phenyl groups:
By introducing phenyl groups (forming methylphenyl silicone oil), the lubricity of silicone oil can be improved, making it more suitable for use as a low-pressure bearing lubricant.
Halogenation modification:
A further method to improve the lubricity of silicone oil is to halogenate phenyl or aliphatic groups.
Use of additives:
The lubricating properties of dimethyl silicone oil can be improved by adding various additives. For example, adding methyl ricinoleate can significantly enhance its lubricity.
