Although dimethyl silicone oil is insoluble in water, its strong moisture absorption may affect its performance in applications such as electrical insulating oil.
Moisture absorption characteristics:
Dimethyl silicone oil can absorb water, typically with a water content ranging from 100 to 200 ppm (parts per million).
The moisture absorption capacity is related to the ambient humidity.
Electrical performance impact:
Due to the fact that moisture can reduce electrical insulation performance, dehydration treatment must be carried out before using dimethyl silicone oil as an electrical insulating oil.
Moisture absorption speed:
Dimethyl silicone oil has a relatively fast moisture absorption capacity.
Dehydration and preservation:
The dehydrated dimethyl silicone oil should be stored in a sealed container or in dry air to avoid reabsorption of moisture.
The dehydration methods include:
Direct heating.
Heat under vacuum conditions.
Use dry nitrogen for purging.
Add dehydrating agents such as silica gel.
