The green manufacturing revolution of fluorosilicone oil: Bio-based technology Reshapes the industry landscape
1.Bio-based fluorosilicone oil has achieved a breakthrough in industrialization
A domestic research team has successfully developed the world's first bio-based fluorosilicone oil product. The proportion of renewable components in its raw materials reaches 60%, and the energy consumption in the production process is reduced by 45% compared with traditional processes. This material, through molecular structure design, maintains stability within a wide temperature range from -50 ℃ to 250℃ while increasing the biodegradation rate to 82%. It has passed the EU REACH certification and the UL environmental declaration verification in the United States.
The core technological breakthrough lies in the adoption of an enzymatic catalytic synthesis process, which replaces the traditional hydrofluoric acid catalytic route, achieving the green preparation of fluorine-containing monomers. At present, a pilot production line with an annual output of 5,000 tons has been completed in Shandong. The performance indicators of the products have reached the international leading level, and it is expected to achieve large-scale mass production in 2026.
2. Environmental protection regulations are forcing industrial upgrading
With the full implementation of the EU's PFAS ban, the traditional fluorinated liquid market is facing contraction, while fluorosilicone oil has become the best alternative due to its low toxicity and degradability. Domestic enterprises have optimized their processes to keep the perfluorinated compound content in fluorosilicone oil below 0.1ppm, meeting the world's most stringent environmental protection standards. Data shows that in 2025, the domestic market size of environmentally friendly fluorosilicone oil increased by 68% year-on-year, accounting for 32% of the overall market.
At the policy level, the country's "dual carbon" goals are driving enterprises to accelerate their transformation. A leading enterprise has reduced the carbon emissions of fluorosilicone oil production to 3.2 tons of CO₂ per ton through photovoltaic power generation and waste heat recovery systems, a 58% decrease compared to the industry average, and has been recognized as a green manufacturing demonstration project by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
3. Expansion of application scenarios in the new energy field
In the field of hydrogen fuel cells, the new type of hydrogen embrittlement resistant fluorosilicone oil has passed the 1,000-hour durability test, successfully solving the corrosion problem of metal components and extending the lifespan of the stack to over 8,000 hours. This material has entered CATL's supply chain system, and it is expected that the market demand will exceed 12,000 tons in 2026.
The photovoltaic industry has also benefited significantly. Self-cleaning fluorosilicone oil coatings can reduce the adhesion of dust on the surface of photovoltaic modules by 90% and increase the power generation efficiency by 1.2%. The measured data of a certain photovoltaic power station shows that after adopting this technology, the annual power generation increases by 15% and the operation and maintenance cost decreases by 40%.
4. Reconstruction of the international market competition pattern
Domestic fluorosilicone oil exports have witnessed explosive growth, with the export volume surging by 75% year-on-year in the first half of 2025. The main markets include Southeast Asia, Europe and North America. The aviation-grade fluorosilicone oil independently developed by a certain enterprise has been certified by Boeing and successfully replaced the products of Dow Corning in the United States. The unit price has been reduced by 20% while the performance has been improved by 15%.
In terms of technology output, the international standard "Low Viscosity Hydroxyl Fluorosilicone Oil" (ISO 21469-2025) led by the Chinese team was officially released, marking China's transformation from a standard follower to a formulator in the field of fluorosilicone materials. It is expected that by 2030, the share of domestic fluorosilicone oil in the global high-end market will exceed 40%.
