Chemical Structure

Product Description

Conventionally, silicone oils with viscosities above 2500 mPa·s are referred to as 107 silicone rubber.

In addition to the general properties of methyl silicone oil, IOTA 2107 possesses reactive hydroxyl groups, allowing it to be used to synthesize new materials or to crosslink into elastomers or elastic films.

Dimethiconol is a colorless, transparent liquid with excellent electrical insulation properties and outstanding resistance to both high and low temperatures. It features a high flash point, low pour point, and can be used continuously in the temperature range of –50°C to +250°C. The product has a low viscosity–temperature coefficient, high compressibility, low surface tension, excellent hydrophobic and moisture-resistant properties, and exhibits chemical and physiological inertness.

Technical Specifications

Hydroxyl Content (%): 0.5-3 (directly related to viscosity)

Properties and Applications

Depending on hydroxyl content and viscosity, IOTA 2107 Dimethiconol can be applied across various industries:

1. Medium- to high-viscosity grades are used as base polymers for release coatings on paper. The cured films provide excellent release performance, suitable for label backing paper, asphalt packaging paper, carton sealing tape liners, decorative paper liners, etc.

2. Used in the electrical and electronics industry as a primary component of insulating varnishes or as a component of electrical insulators.

3. Serves as the base polymer and diluent for condensation-type room-temperature vulcanized (RTV) silicone rubbers, such as sealants and mold-making silicones.

4. Can replace dimethyl silicone oil and is readily emulsifiable.

5. Low-molecular-weight Dimethiconol (25–30 cP, hydroxyl content around 8%) is used as a structure control agent for silicone rubber. Replacing diphenyl dihydroxysilane with this product simplifies silicone rubber processing, improves processing performance (eliminating heat treatment), increases product transparency, and improves working conditions.

6. Other applications under development.

Usage and Dosage

IOTA 2107 Dimethiconol is generally used in combination with curing agents to achieve crosslinking and curing. For release paper applications, coupling agents are also required for fixation.

Typical curing agent dosage: 3-5% of the base polymer

Typical coupling agent dosage: 0.5-1% of the base polymer

In most cases, the base polymer is first diluted approximately 10 times with a solvent, followed by the addition of curing agent and coupling agent. After thorough mixing, the formulation is coated onto the substrate and cured at room temperature or under heat.

Room-temperature curing: 30 minutes

Thermal curing: 120-150°C for approximately 30 seconds

For sealants and mold-making silicones, solvents are not required. After adding the appropriate curing agent (depending on one-component or two-component systems), mix thoroughly, degas, and allow curing within 30–120 minutes.

Precautions

IOTA 2107 Dimethiconol should not be mixed with acids, alkalis, alkoxysilanes, or high-temperature water vapor, as these conditions may cause premature curing or viscosity changes.
