Important characteristics of fluorosilicone rubber

1 Oil resistance, solvent resistance, chemical resistance
Compared with methyl vinyl silicone rubber, fluorosilicone rubber has excellent oil resistance, solvent resistance, and chemical resistance; even compared with fluororubber, it also has good oil and solvent resistance. After immersion in the same medium, temperature, and time, it shows excellent durability. It can be said that fluorosilicone rubber is the only elastomer that can withstand non-polar media at -68℃~232℃.
Fluorosilicone rubber exhibits good resistance to gasoline containing methanol. Even in a gasoline/methanol (85vol% / 15vol%) mixed system, the hardness, tensile strength, and volume change of its vulcanized rubber are minimal. After a prolonged immersion test of 500 hours, there is virtually no change in its physical properties.
2 Heat resistance
The high-temperature decomposition of fluorosilicone rubber is similar to that of silicone rubber, namely: side chain oxidation, main chain breakage, side chain thermal decomposition, and various composite reactions. Since the decomposition products can also cause main chain breakage, the heat resistance is usually worse than that of silicone rubber, and it has begun to oxidize and age at a temperature of 200℃. However, by adding a small amount of heat stabilizers such as iron, titanium, and rare earth oxides, it can be significantly improved, and even at a high temperature of 250℃, it has sufficient heat resistance. The temperature has a greater impact on fluorosilicone rubber than silicone rubber, but less than fluororubber. Foreign studies have also investigated the service life of fluorosilicone rubber under conditions of 150℃×2000h, 175℃×5000h, and 200℃×4000h, and the results are second only to methyl vinyl silicone rubber.
3. Cold resistance
Fluorosilicone rubber, like ordinary silicone rubber, has good low-temperature performance. Because fluorosilicone rubber is a linear polymer with a soft Si-O backbone, its low-temperature characteristics are superior to those of fluororubber with a C-C backbone. Among them, fluorosilicone rubber (LS-2370U) has better low-temperature characteristics, with a brittle temperature as low as -89℃, while general fluororubber is about -30℃.
4 Electrical properties and radiation resistance
The electrical properties of fluorosilicone rubber are similar to those of ordinary silicone rubber, but its particularly valuable feature is that it changes very little under harsh conditions such as high temperature, low temperature, humidity, oil, solvents, chemicals, ozone, etc. The radiation resistance of fluorosilicone rubber is not outstanding, but its radiation aging resistance is better than that of methyl vinyl silicone rubber.
5 Physical and mechanical properties
Like ordinary silicone rubber, the mechanical strength (especially tear strength) of vulcanized rubber is relatively low. Therefore, improving and enhancing the strength of fluorosilicone rubber is also an important research topic.
6 Other characteristics
Fluorosilicone rubber exhibits outstanding resistance to weathering and aging, maintaining good performance even after 5 years of exposure. Ozone is one of the most common gases produced during the aging of elastomers, yet fluorosilicone rubber has not exhibited any signs of cracking or fissuring after undergoing dynamic or static testing.
In addition, the anti-mildew, physiological inertness, and anticoagulant properties of fluorosilicone rubber are also very good.
