The difference between end-hydrogen silicone oil and side-hydrogen silicone oil

Hits: 906 img

The main difference between the two types of silicone oil, end-hydrogenated silicone oil and side-hydrogenated silicone oil, is their chemical structure. The chemical structure of end-hydrogenated silicone oil contains hydrogen silyl groups at both ends of the drop, while side-hydrogenated silicone oil only has one drop end containing hydrogen silyl groups. Specifically, the two silicon atoms in the end-hydrogenated silicone oil molecule are connected to two hydrogen atoms, while the side-hydrogenated silicone oil molecule has only one silicon atom connected to one hydrogen atom, and the other silicon atom is connected to other groups.
Because the terminal hydrogen-containing silicone oil molecules contain two silicon-hydrogen bonds, they exhibit good emulsifying ability in water. However, the side hydrogen-containing silicone oil molecules only contain one silicon-hydrogen bond, so its water emulsification performance is not as good as that of the terminal hydrogen-containing silicone oil.
Properties and Applications of Hydrogen-Containing Silicone Oil at the End and Side
There are also differences in properties and applications between end-hydrogenated silicone oil and side-hydrogenated silicone oil. End-hydrogenated silicone oil has good solubility and emulsifying properties and can be used as an emulsifier in the fields of surfactants, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, etc. In addition, end-hydrogenated silicone oil can also be used to manufacture various end-group reactive linear modified silicone oils, chain extenders for addition-type liquid silicone rubber, crosslinkers for addition-type heat vulcanized silicone rubber, and is a key intermediate in block copolymerization reactions, which also has wide applications in the field of coatings.
Side-chain hydrogen-containing silicone oil has higher chemical and thermal stability than end-chain hydrogen-containing silicone oil. When preparing polysiloxane (also known as silicone polymer), side-chain hydrogen-containing silicone oil can be used as a crosslinking agent. In addition, side-chain hydrogen-containing silicone oil can also be used to prepare high-molecular fertilizers, antioxidants, rubber processing, etc.
In summary, there are significant differences in chemical structure, properties, and applications between end-hydrogenated silicone oil and side-hydrogenated silicone oil. Understanding their differences and application areas is important for the correct selection and use of them.
