Textile Tech Revolution: Novel Silicone Oil Breaks the Chlorine Bleach Barrier

Traditional fabric softeners often fail under harsh washing conditions. A new patent utilizing Terminal Hydrogen Silicone Oil offers a solution with a new silicone oil that is both hydrophilic and resistant to chlorine bleaching.
A patent for a “Hydrophilic and Chlorine-Resistant Silicone Oil, Preparation Method, and Application” has been published, signaling a major advancement for high-end textile auxiliaries .
Traditional amino silicone oils, while providing excellent softness, suffer from hydrophobicity and yellowing. They also degrade quickly when exposed to chlorine bleach. The newly developed silicone oil solves these issues through precise molecular design. Using Terminal Hydrogen Silicone Oil as the starting material, engineers performed a hydrosilylation reaction with allyl glycidyl ether, followed by amination to introduce hydrophilic polyether segments.
The key innovation is grafting a “chlorine-resistant” chain segment onto the main polymer chain. The result is a fabric treatment agent that maintains fabric softness and color vibrancy even after repeated washing with chlorine bleach. This is particularly valuable for sportswear, hotel linens (which require aggressive washing), and children’s wear .
Beyond textiles, hydrogen silicone oil continues to prove its value as a building block. In liquid silicone rubber (LSR), terminal hydrogen silicone oil acts as a chain extender. Research indicates that using vinyl silicone oil containing side-chain Si-H bonds significantly enhances the mechanical properties of LSR, reducing structuralization without compromising hardness. This is critical for optical components and electronic potting .
Additionally, in fire safety, silicone-based firestop putty utilizing hydrogen silicone oil demonstrates excellent ceramifying properties. When exposed to flames, it rapidly forms a hard ceramic shell, blocking heat transfer and preventing fire spread.
From textile finishing to fireproofing and electronics, hydrogen silicone oil is evolving from a simple waterproofing agent into an enabler of advanced manufacturing and high-quality living.
