1. Mutual solubility
Dimethyl silicone oil exhibits good miscibility between different viscosity grades, allowing it to be mixed in any ratio to form a uniform mixture with an intermediate viscosity value.
Dimethyl silicone oil and hydrogen-containing silicone oil can also be mixed in any ratio.
The miscibility of dimethyl silicone oil and methyl phenyl silicone oil is limited, and only when the viscosity of dimethyl silicone oil is lower than 50 mm²/s and the phenyl mole fraction of methyl phenyl silicone oil does not exceed 10%, can the two be miscible.
Methyl phenyl silicone oils with different phenyl contents are not miscible with each other.
2. Solubility in organic solvents
The solubility of silicone oil in organic solvents varies depending on the type and viscosity of the silicone oil. Methyl silicone oil is particularly soluble in non-polar solvents, with solubility decreasing as the viscosity of the silicone oil increases, and poor solubility in polar solvents.
Methyl phenyl silicone oil or silicone oil with higher alkyl substituents has better solubility in organic solvents than dimethyl silicone oil of the same viscosity, and the higher the phenyl content, the better the solubility.
