Demand Structure of Hydroxyl Silicone Oil Continuously Optimized, High-End Field Expansion Drives High-Quality Industrial Development

(Special Report) In recent years, with the rapid development of emerging fields such as electronic and electrical, new energy vehicles and biomedicine, the demand structure of China's hydroxyl silicone oil industry has been continuously optimized, the demand for high-end products has increased sharply, and the industry is strategically transitioning from traditional basic chemical raw materials to high-end functional materials, with continuous improvement of industrial value. According to data from the China Fluorosilicone Organic Materials Industry Association (CAFSI), the apparent consumption of hydroxyl silicone oil in China reached 96,000 tons in 2024, of which the electronic and electrical field accounted for 31.2%, surpassing the construction field for the first time to become the largest application segment. The demand for medical and health care and new energy vehicles accounted for 12.5% and 18.8% respectively, and the combined proportion of traditional construction and daily chemical fields has been reduced to 42.3%, realizing a fundamental reshaping of the industry structure. In the electronic and electrical field, relying on its excellent insulation performance, high and low temperature resistance and good compatibility, hydroxyl silicone oil has become a core auxiliary material for high-end electronic manufacturing. The bond energy of the silicon-oxygen bond in its molecule is as high as 452 kJ/mol, much higher than that of the carbon-carbon bond. The cured coating can maintain stable insulation properties in the range of -50℃ to 200℃, with a volume resistivity of more than 10¹⁴Ω·cm, effectively solving the problem of performance attenuation of traditional insulation materials when the temperature changes drastically. In the production of 5G base stations, power transformers, new energy vehicle motors and other products, the insulating paint and potting glue modified by hydroxyl silicone oil show excellent arc resistance and lightweight advantages - tests by a power equipment enterprise show that the transformer using this material has an arc resistance time extended from 60 seconds of traditional materials to 180 seconds under 10kV voltage, and the insulation level is improved by two levels; when used in new energy vehicle motor potting glue, the density is only 1.1g/cm³, 30% lighter than epoxy resin potting glue, and the thermal conductivity is increased to 0.3W/(m·K), effectively reducing the working temperature of the motor and extending its service life. In the medical and health field, medical-grade hydroxyl silicone oil has been widely used in medical device coatings, drug carriers and other scenarios due to its good biocompatibility. Products certified by ISO 10993 biocompatibility have been successfully applied in implantable medical devices, medical catheters and other fields, effectively improving the lubricity and biosafety of medical devices. In addition, with the explosive demand in emerging fields such as AI computing power liquid cooling and photovoltaic packaging, orders for high thermal conductivity and low volatility hydroxyl silicone oil have increased by more than 30%, becoming a new growth pole of the industry. On the market supply side, industrial production capacity continues to tilt towards high-end. By the end of 2024, the effective production capacity of hydroxyl silicone oil in China reached 128,000 tons/year, with an average annual compound growth rate of 19.4%, but there is obvious structural differentiation: the capacity utilization rate of mid-to-low-end products is only 75%, and the inventory turnover days have risen to 41 days; while high-end products (such as medical grade, optical grade, ultra-high molecular weight) are still in short supply, with an import dependence of 32% and an import average price as high as 42,300 yuan/ton. To address the gap in high-end products, domestic enterprises are accelerating technological R&D. Enterprises such as Hubei Xingrui and Anhui Mingyi have launched products with high hydroxyl content and high purity. Among them, the high hydroxyl content hydroxyl silicone oil developed by Hubei Xingrui has a hydroxyl content of 8-14% and a viscosity of 25-40cp, filling the gap in domestic related product fields; the electronic-grade hydroxyl silicone oil launched by Anhui Mingyi has a metal ion residue reduced to less than 3ppm, meeting the strict requirements of semiconductor packaging and OLED optical glue. Industry insiders analyze that in the next five years, with the continuous expansion of downstream emerging fields, the demand for hydroxyl silicone oil will maintain steady growth. It is expected that the market scale will exceed 8 billion yuan in 2027, and the proportion of high-end products will increase from 38% in 2024 to 55%. Industry competition will focus on technological innovation and product high-endization. Enterprises need to accelerate the transition from "scale expansion" to "technological premium", and achieve high-quality development by laying out high-end production capacity, deeply binding downstream customers, and building a green and low-carbon supply chain, promoting China's hydroxyl silicone oil industry to gradually achieve global leadership.
