IOTA Launches Novel Epoxy Phenyl Silicone Oil (IOTA-279), Leading New Breakthroughs in High-Performance Material Modification
(Press Announcement) Recently, Anhui IOTA Silicone Co., Ltd. (IOTA) announced the successful R&D and mass production of IOTA-279, a novel Epoxy Phenyl Silicone Oil. Specifically engineered for high-end resin modification, this product delivers exceptional heat resistance, high refractive index, and strong reactivity, providing a revolutionary solution for upgrading the performance of epoxy, polyurethane, and polycarbonate resins. It has garnered significant attention from customers in electronics, aerospace, and high-performance coatings upon launch.
IOTA-279 is a phenyl polysiloxane terminated with glycidyl ether groups, appearing as a colorless to pale yellow transparent liquid, solvent-free. Its core technological advantage lies in the perfect integration of rigid phenyl groups and highly reactive epoxy groups onto the silicone backbone. This not only preserves the inherent flexibility, weatherability, and hydrophobicity of silicones but also imparts a high refractive index (1.474 at 25°C) and excellent thermal stability. With an epoxy equivalent weight of 260–340 g/equ and a low viscosity of 15–30 cSt, it offers exceptional process compatibility.
As a reactive toughening modifier, IOTA-279 covalently bonds into the resin matrix during curing, forming a stable interpenetrating network. In epoxy systems, it dramatically improves toughness, impact resistance, and electrical insulation without sacrificing thermal stability. For polyurethanes and polycarbonates, it reduces cohesive energy density, enhancing thermal cycle stability and atomic oxygen resistance—critical for aerospace and optical electronics applications. Its excellent compatibility and leveling properties also make it ideal for high-performance industrial floor coatings, anti-corrosion paints, and precision mold release agents.
"The successful mass production of IOTA-279 marks another major milestone for IOTA in functional specialty silicones," stated the CTO of IOTA. "Through precise molecular design, we have overcome the traditional trade-off: 'toughening reduces strength, heat resistance sacrifices reactivity'." Currently certified and supplied to multiple industry leaders, IOTA-279 effectively replaces imported counterparts, supporting the self-reliance and domestic substitution of China's high-end new material supply chain.
