High refractive index technology breakthrough: Phenyl silicone oil leads the way in the new field of optical materials

1.Precise Control of Refractive Index Leads to a Quantum Leap in Optical Performance

Recently, the technological breakthrough of phenyl silicone oil in the high refractive index field has become the focus of the industry. By adjusting the proportion of phenyl linkages, precise control of refractive indices ranging from 1.48 to 1.62 has been achieved. Compared to the refractive index of 1.41 of ordinary silicone oil, it has significantly increased, reducing light loss by more than 23%. Currently, the industry has formed multiple mature production processes, including one-step ring-opening polymerization method and solid catalyst condensation reaction, which can produce high-end products with refractive indices above 1.54 and transmittance exceeding 90%. Some special products have refractive indices even reaching 1.62, filling the technological gap in high refractive index organic silicone materials in China.

2. The LED packaging market is booming, driving rapid growth in demand.
High refractive index phenolic silicone oil has become the core material in the LED packaging field. For every 0.01 increase in its refractive index, the LED efficiency can be improved by 3%. The COB packaging module made with a high refractive index product containing 45% phenolic content can achieve a luminous efficiency of 180lm/W, which is 27% higher than that of traditional materials. At the same brightness, the energy consumption can be reduced by one-third. As the global LED packaging adhesive market expands at a rate of 11.5% annually, the domestic LED packaging adhesive market size will account for 40% of the global market in 2025. The demand for high refractive index phenolic silicone oil is expected to surge by 300%, becoming the core driving force for industry growth.

3. Extensive penetration into multiple optical scenarios to expand application boundaries
Apart from LED packaging, high refractive index phenolic silicone oil is gradually penetrating into various scenarios such as flexible displays, optical films, and precision optical instruments. In the field of flexible displays, its bending resistance exceeds 1 million times, and the light transmittance remains above 92%, which can meet the packaging requirements of foldable screens. In the optical film field, with excellent light transmittance and adhesion properties, it improves the imaging quality of optical components. In precision optical instruments, as a lens coating material, it effectively reduces light refraction loss and enhances the detection accuracy of the instrument, promoting the miniaturization and high-precision upgrade of optical equipment.

4. Upgrade of purification process to ensure high-end application quality
To meet the strict purity requirements of the optical industry for products, industry enterprises have continuously upgraded their purification processes, adopting a three-stage combined technology of "thin film evaporation - adsorption purification - ultrafiltration membrane separation", effectively removing unreacted monomers, catalyst residues, and trace gels. The benzene-based silicone oil processed by this method has an ultraviolet-visible transmittance of over 96.5%, a dielectric constant of 2.85 ± 0.03, and a total metal ion content of less than 1 ppm, fully meeting the application requirements of high-end optical packaging and semiconductor packaging adhesives, providing quality assurance for the implementation of the technology.
