Application fields of thiol-based modified organic silicone oil

Mercaptoalkyl-modified organosilicone oil has unique chemical properties and reactivity, thus it has a wide range of applications in various fields. Here are its main application areas:

Electronic and Electrical Field

  • Semiconductor Coatings: The single-component solvent-free light-curing mercaptoalkyl/alkenyl silicone coating for semiconductors produced by Shin-Etsu in Japan can solidify into an elastic film in just 10 seconds under the irradiation of 80W/cm high-pressure mercury lamp. It is resistant to cold and hot shock between -50℃ and 200℃, and has good adhesion to materials such as silicon, ceramics, and copper. It can prevent the semiconductor structure and leads from being damaged during plastic encapsulation, and protect the components from being eroded by water vapor and other substances during storage and use.
  • Multistate Silicone Rubber: The depth curing time of general condensation-type room temperature vulcanized silicone rubber is long, making it difficult to achieve continuous and rapid vulcanization operations. If a light-curing system containing mercapto and alkenyl groups is added, it can not only speed up the vulcanization rate, but also overcome the problem of poor adhesion of light-curing adhesives.

Optical Fiber Communication Field

  • Optical Fiber Coatings: The light-curing optical fiber coating formulated from mercaptoalkyl silicone oil and alkenyl silicone oil has the advantages of extremely fast curing rate (<1 second) and no hydrogen evolution. The optical fiber coating "Optigard" developed by Dow Corning in the United States can solidify into a glass transition temperature low and elastic modulus change small in the temperature range of -60℃ to 125℃ under the irradiation of 80W/cm medium pressure mercury lamp at a distance of 10cm in 0.3 seconds, which is suitable for use in harsh conditions.
  • Isolating Agents for Paper and Plastic Films: The low-temperature and rapid-curing mercapto/alkenyl light-curing silicone used as an isolating agent for paper can avoid the disadvantage of solution and emulsion agents as well as platinum-catalyzed addition-type isolating agents that require heating and baking. It is particularly popular for the production of pressure-sensitive adhesive products with polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, and polyester films as substrates.

  • Release Agents: Mercapto silicone oil has excellent release properties and has been successfully used in the melting parts of toner in photocopiers to prevent toner adhesion. It can also be combined with curing agents to improve the heat resistance and durability of products.

Textile Field

  • Textile Finishing Agents: It can be used for waterproof finishing of textiles, especially on cotton textiles with significant effects. It can also be used to treat wool, giving it durable shrink resistance.
  • Use in Combination with Other Auxiliaries: It can be used in combination with various functional additives such as waterproofing agents, flame retardants, antistatic agents, and color fixing agents to meet the high-end demands of textiles.

Other Fields

  • Coating Additives: It can be added to coatings to prevent caking.
  • Metal Corrosion Inhibitors: When mercapto silicone oil is mixed into dimethyl silicone oil, it can not only improve the thermal oxidation stability of the latter, but also be used as a metal corrosion inhibitor.
