The functional difference of different fluorine-containing silicone oils

Hits: 885 img

Methyl fluorosilicone oil, hydrogen-containing fluorosilicone oil, amino fluorosilicone oil, hydroxy fluorosilicone oil, and vinyl fluorosilicone oil are all types of fluorosilicone oil, which differ in function and application areas. The following is a detailed introduction to the functional differences of these five types of fluorosilicone oil:

Methyl Fluorosilicone Oil

Function Features:

Methyl fluorosilicone oil is a low-polymerized product composed of trifluoropropyl methyl siloxane, with a transparent liquid appearance of colorless or light yellow.

Introducing trifluoropropyl afterward, methyl fluorosilicone oil has the characteristics of corrosion resistance and solvent resistance, while maintaining the wide range of use temperature of silicone oil (- 60 ~ 200℃).

With a small surface tension and low refractive index, it is suitable for use as a corrosion-resistant and solvent-resistant defoamer, lubricant, and lubricating grease.

In the textile printing and dyeing industry, it is also a good choice for efficient defoamers and fabric conditioners.

Hydrogen-containing Fluorosilicone Oil

Function Features:

Hydrogen-containing silicone oil is an organic silicon polymer composed of silicones and siloxanes, and its fluorinated version may have similar chemical structures and properties.

It usually has excellent thermal stability, low surface tension, and high surface activity.

These characteristics make hydrogen-containing fluorosilicone oil widely used in many fields, such as lubrication, rust prevention, glass molding in high-temperature environments, and as a surface active agent and emulsifier. However, the specific functionalities and characteristics of hydrofluorosilicone oils may vary depending on the specific formulation and properties of the product.

Ammonia-based fluorosilicone oils

Functions and features:

Ammonia-based fluorosilicone oils introduce amino groups into the fluorosilicone structure, thereby enhancing its softness and lubricity.

It can produce directed adsorption with the carboxyl and hydroxyl groups on the fabric surface, reducing the friction coefficient between fibers, making it widely used in fabric softener applications.

At the same time, ammonia-based fluorosilicone oils retain the water resistance, oil resistance, and heat resistance of the original fluorosilicone oil.

It also has potential applications in polyurethane and resin modification.

Hydroxy-based fluorosilicone oils

Functions and features:

Hydroxy-based fluorosilicone oil is a colorless or pale yellow transparent liquid suitable for use as a structural controller in the processing of fluorosilicone rubber.

It can effectively prevent the structuralization of fluorosilicone rubber and improve its processing performance and finished product quality.

It may also have certain application potential in other fields such as coatings and adhesives.

Vinyl-based fluorosilicone oils

Functions and features:

Vinyl-based fluorosilicone oils are based on fluorosilicone polymers and have excellent resistance to polar and non-polar solvents, as well as oil.

They can be used over a temperature range of -50°C to 250°C and have good corrosion resistance, weather resistance, and electrical insulation properties. Vinyl fluorosilicone oil is widely used in the production of oil-resistant hoses, belts, seal strips, seal rings, and other fluorosilicone rubber products, as well as as a raw material for aircraft fuel tank sealants and engine parts.

Summary

The five types of fluorosilicone oils have different emphases in terms of function and application fields. Methyl fluorosilicone oil is renowned for its resistance to corrosion, solvents, and a wide range of use temperatures; hydrogen fluorosilicone oil is widely used in various fields due to its excellent thermal stability and surface activity; amino fluorosilicone oil excels in the field of fabric softeners; hydroxy fluorosilicone oil is an important auxiliary agent in the processing of fluorosilicone rubber; and vinyl fluorosilicone oil is widely used in high-end fluorosilicone rubber products due to its resistance to high temperatures, oil, and corrosion. When choosing to use them, the appropriate type of fluorosilicone oil should be selected based on the specific application scenario and requirements.
